About the book

WHY NOT?
Here's the phrase that should orient us in thinking ahead, so we can free ourselves from the known and plausible to dive into the desirable. Why not create another economy in which "value" is more than financial? Why not create a model of government ruled by merit and by the direct participation of the population? To have cities made for enjoyment and not just to occupy space? Or have “caring" guiding all kinds of activity in the twenty-first century? Why not have an education that teaches us to choose well and understand the consequences of each choice? Why not leave behind all the daily problems that cause fear and mistrust? Why not build relationships, undertakings and territories based on trust? Why not adopt collaboration as a modus operandi? Sustainable diverse and creative world. Why not?

The entertaining outlook on life in 2042 is a fiction that takes place at the time of Rio + 50, based upon futures created between 2008 and 2012 in eight countries, by people of all ages and areas through participation in the “Movimento Crie Futuros “. The book has a framework of four pillars that are infinite, abundant, multiply with use and thus may be keys for sustainability: the Creative Economy, which relies on intangible resources; the new information and communication technologies; the collaborative processes and new forms of organization of the network society, also the multidimensional outlook on wealth, resources and results. "If everything were possible, how would you like things to be?" Starting from this question the chapters were created and organized into subjects from everyday life, so that they may reinvent economics, politics, cities, care, education, relationships, culture. Intermingled in the text are futures from the collection of the “Movimento Crie Futuros “ and illustrations by Angela Leon, the Spanish collective Bassurama and the invited guests Claude Giordano, Guto Lacaz, Jaime Prades, Adam Itusgarrai and others. There are also texts written by avant-garde intellectuals from various countries: Angel Masters / Spain; Aron Belinki / Brazil; Arnoldo de Hoyos / Brazil; Jacques Dezelin / Brazil, Jorge Wilheim / Brazil; Joxean Fernandez / Spain; Maria Arlete Gonçalves / Brazil; Melanie Swan / USA; Pichi de Benedicts / Argentina, Rosa Alegria / Brazil; Silvina Martinez / Argentina, Wellington Nogueira / Brazil. Three thousand five hundred copies were given to leaders at the Rio + 20.
